1. Go kayaking at Matka canyon

2. Walk around the Old Bazaar, the second biggest Ottoman market in Europe (and one of Lisa's favorite spots in Skopje!).

3. Have a bite to eat in the vibrant Bohemian-like part of Skopje, in Debar Maalo

4. Walk around the city square street (near Mother Theresa's house) and the river canal

5. Hike up Mount Vodno to enjoy the view, a cold beer or a cappuccino, and hike back down by foot or with a cable car

6. Have lunch and do a wine-tasting tour at Chateau Kamnik winery

7. Take a road trip to Ohrid, a beautiful ancient city on one of the oldest lakes in Europe. Ohrid, which is only 3h away from Skopje, is known for its pearls, freshwater trout, cobblestoned streets and medieval architecture. A must-see!

 8. Book a tour to go horseback riding in Galicnik (2 hr drive from Skopje). Enjoy the gorgeous views, come back to an amazingly fresh and authentic lunch, and stay the night in one of the many local hotels. Lisa's most memorable experience in MK!

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul is a major city in Turkey that  reflects cultural influences of the many empires that once ruled here. It’s one of the most awe-inspiring cities, with breathtaking architecture and delicious food.

There are very reasonably priced direct flights to Istanbul from Macedonia. Plan for 1.5-2h of travel time!

Barcelona, the capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, is known for its art and architecture, as well as the fantastical Sagrada Família and other modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudí.
